They may be obtained by reacting a phenyl hydrazine with a compound of the formula wherein Z is hydrocarbyloxy or is -NR 1 R 2 wherein R 1 and R 2 are independently H, alkyl or hydroxyalkyl having 1 to 4 carbon atoms or C 2 -C 4 alkenyl radicals or R 1 and R 2 together with the N atom form a heterocyclic ring. The compounds are useful as herbicides and as plant growth regulants for regulating the growth of corn plants and may be used as active ingredients in conventional herbicidal or plant growth regulant compositions.

00 The invention relates to chemical methods for controlling weeds and undesirable vegetation. There are known methods for controlling undesirable vegetation with herbicides; the organophosphorus compounds are active under KQTocttuc. These include, for example, a method based on the use of the amide f-phosphono-methylaminoacetic acid (fl). However, the known methods.: Are not effective enough against some species of weeds | 1X and undesirable plants. The purpose of the invention is to improve the efficiency of the method of controlling undesirable potency of Jf. This goal is achieved by the fact that, as a derivative of N-phosphus fonomethylglycine, N-phosphonomethylglycine phenylhydrazide of formula (o)} PCHtUHCKxCim-KH. in the amount of 0.224-1.12 kg / ha. The method of preparing the compound of formula I is based on the reaction of methyl 4-phosphonomethylglycinate with phenylhydrazine with heating. The compound is a solid with m.p. 251-253 (with decomposition). It is used in the form of aqueous or aqueous-organic solutions containing surfactants. An example. The test plants are grown under greenhouse conditions until the age of 14 and 21 days and are treated with preparations of compound I and a known compound. After that, plants continue to be grown in a greenhouse, and after 2 and 4 weeks, the degree of exposure of these preparations to them is determined.
